Discovery Park Student Advisory Board

Purpose

  • To provide advice and input for planning and executing of events and services to students at Discovery Park
  • To increase student engagement with the Center for Student Affairs
  • To assist the Center for Student Affairs in understanding student issues and concerns
  • To provide assistance in marketing the Center for Student Affairs programs and services to students

Structure 

  • One student from each academic department located at Discovery Park ○ Learning Technology
  • Library and Information Science
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Materials Science
  • Engineering Technology
  • A graduate student (if rest of the members are undergraduate students) Maximum of 8 students

Responsibilities 

The advisory board members are expected to fulfill all the following:

  • Attend all monthly meetings - we highly recommend students only apply if they can be available for these dates. Fridays at noon - September 13, October 11, November 8, January 17, February 14, March 21, April 11 (Lunch will be provided) Not determined if May meeting is necessary
  • Contribute in shaping short and long-term programming objectives of CSA
  • Regularly attend large CSA events to observe and discuss at the meetings
  • Actively address student needs and concerns on behalf Discovery Park students

Rewards 

  • Represent the voices and experiences of Discovery Park students
  • Shape the Center for Student Affairs programs, services and policies
  • Gain leadership experience

Selection Process 

Students should demonstrate good academic standing (2.5 GPA or above), effective communication and interpersonal skills, and agree to a one-year commitment. We will accept nominations until September 6, 2013. Ideal student candidates can be nominated in four different ways:

  • Faculty nomination
  • Staff nomination
  • Peer nomination
  • Self-nomination (application here)

To nominate an individual, contact the CSA office via phone or email - 940.369.5847 or dplife@unt.edu with student name and contact information (email preferred). When CSA receives a nomination, a staff member will notify the student of his/her nomination and invite them to fill out an application.
