1. Think about your intended major or how you expect to use your new computer. Mostly writing, surfing, posting, playing? Want to create music, video, art, design projects? Is there a discount on computers and software from the Mainframe?
Our academic pricing is discounted up to 20% for Apple products compared to retail prices for the identical product.
Do I really need a computer at school?
Although computers are not required, it is strongly recommended that you have one. Email, internet research, class information posted on the web, instant messaging, writing papers, and completing coursework are some of the uses for a computer at college. Computer labs are available on-campus, but nothing can beat the convenience of your own computer and printer. You will find having your own computer a very valuable investment.
What comes with a computer from the Mainframe?
A Macintosh computer or iPad comes with Mac OS or iOS and many useful Apple applications for free. Additional software like Office and Adobe Creative Cloud are available through UNT for free or reduced pricing. A printer, cables, and other important accessories are available at the Mainframe and are sold separately. Our MEAN GREEN Computer Accessory Kit contains all the items needed and is configured just for you and your computer.
Besides a computer, what else would I want to get?
You should consider getting a laptop sleeve, color inkjet printer, USB printer cable, a good surge protector, and a USB thumb drive. Our MEAN GREEN accessory kit contains all the items needed and is sold at a heavily discounted price. All of these items are available at the Mainframe.
Do I need to purchase MS Office or antivirus software?
UNT provides Microsoft Office 365 and Antivirus software to all enrolled UNT students, faculty and staff.
Where do I get my computer and how long does it take?
During the summer, we carry most of our recommended systems in stock at the Mainframe so you could order and pick up your computer on the same day. If we don’t have what you want in stock, or if you want your computer delivered to your home, we can special order your computer from the manufacturer. Special order computers arrive about 2 weeks from the order date. This can vary depending on availability and time of year (generally in August, add a week). There is no shipping charge for special order computers shipped directly to your home via standard shipping from the manufacturer. To make sure your computer arrives at home before you get to UNT, please order by August 1st. If you order after August 1st, we will contact you when your computer arrives to let you know where and when you can pick it up.
I'm an incoming student so when should I buy a computer?
If you have questions and want to make sure you get the best computer for your time at UNT, it is recommended that you wait until your Summer Orientation session in June or July. At your session, you might hear from UNT representatives with their recommendations for the best systems to have at school. You will also meet with your advisor and others within your chosen major who will have additional recommendations. More importantly, in the University Union, you will have the opportunity to see the latest Apple systems at the Mainframe and ask additional questions. The Mainframe has most computers in stock so you can take it home today. You will still have time all summer to come in to the Mainframe to place your order and receive your computer in time for the start of school if you order by August 1. After August 1, if we don’t have want you want in stock, order times can get extended due to demand and you may not get your computer by the start of classes.

How do I connect my computer to the network in my dorm?
On-campus residents can register for an account at Apogee, the campus ResNet provider, at www.MyResNet.com. Once you’ve created a unique username and password, you can log in and access the ResNet on the day you arrive on campus. By the way, all systems sold by the Mainframe meet the requirements for Apogee ResNet.

The Mainframe carries Canon printers. Need cables? We have printer, USB, HDMI, Lightning, Thunderbolt, power and many more. Additional accessories include phone cases, external hard drives, headsets, Bluetooth speakers, headphones, USB thumb drives, mice, keyboards, laptop sleeves and much more. What are the terms and conditions of sale from the Mainframe?
Due to industry trends, availability and pricing on all items is subject to change or discontinuation at any time without prior notice. For these reasons, we reserve the right to cancel any order at any time. The price on the date you place the order is final. All purchases are subject to state sales tax. Purchase of academically priced merchandise is for eligible UNT students, parents, faculty and staff only, and requires a valid UNT ID Card or other proof of eligibility.
If your system is Dead-On-Arrival, you must notify the Mainframe within 3 business days of receiving your computer to qualify for a return or replacement. The Mainframe will pull from stock or order you a new replacement computer depending on your preference and the availability of a replacement. Contacting Apple directly usually complicates and delays the replacement process.
- Return Policies / Exchanges:
Unopened Apple branded products may be returned or exchanged within 14 days of receipt, with original packaging, and in re-salable or returnable condition (unless Dead-On-Arrival). All other products are covered by manufacturer's warranty and terms vary. For printer service, contact Canon directly at 800-652-2666).
- Hardware Warranty Repair:
While at UNT, report all Apple warranty hardware problems immediately to the Mainframe at 940-565-2966 to schedule warranty service. If away from UNT, call AppleCare Support for Education at 800-800-2775 option3. AppleCare Support will assist you with MAC OS and other Apple-branded software issues.
What does the included warranty cover?
Apple computers sold by the Mainframe come with 90-day telephone support and 1-year parts and labor. If you purchase AppleCare+ and we strongly recommend that you do, Macs with AppleCare+ for Mac are covered for a total of three years from the date of purchase. AppleCare+ includes 24-hour phone support from Apple for questions on using Apple branded hardware and software. Service coverage is available only for Mac and its original included accessories for protection against (i) defects in materials or workmanship, (ii) batteries that retain less than 80 percent of their original capacity, and (iii) up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling of your Mac, each incident being subject to a service fee of $99 for screen damage or external enclosure damage, or $299 for other damage, plus applicable tax.
