As you know, President Smatresk has made career development for our students a top priority for the past few years. Much work has been done by several career-centered task forces, along with the president’s listening tours across campus. In his State of the University address this August, President Smatresk will speak more about the strategic initiatives related to career readiness.
In the meantime, I want to share with you some changes that are on the horizon for the Career Center. After much consultation and contemplation, President Smatresk and I have decided to make a change in strategic direction in the Career Center.
Dan Naegeli, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs in Career and Leadership, who has worked tirelessly for the past 18 years on behalf of our students in many different career-focused roles, will in the coming months take on a new role leading our career team in Frisco.
I can’t thank Dan enough for his role in shaping the Career Center for so many years. He has dedicated himself to preparing our students to be successful in their lives after graduation and so many are indebted to him for his service as are we all.
A search committee has been formed and will soon begin the process of hiring someone to lead the Career Center in the innovative path it is embarking on. Dan will continue to lead the Career Center while the search process is underway.
It has also been determined that Career Connect initiatives that support student career development will transition to the Career Center in support of plans for the coming year.
I will continue to keep you posted as plans progress. Change can be challenging for us all but let’s take this opportunity to honor our journey while feeling excited about the new and innovative ways we will serve our students as they prepare for life after UNT.
Elizabeth With Ed.D.
Vice President for Student Affairs
