VP Message- Diversity Update - July 28, 2021

Dear DSA,

I’m excited to announce that the second year of DSA’s diversity training Personal Development Plan for Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity trainings is ready to roll out. Staff need to submit plans to their supervisor by Aug. 31 and complete the trainings by Apr. 30, 2022. Please note that the division-wide required Everfi training will be available by Oct. 1.

The Diversity Council created the development plan last year in response to President Smatresk asking each division to determine a required number of training hours for staff to complete related to diversity, inclusion, and equity topics. Last year, 99 percent of required staff developed a plan by the Oct. 1 deadline and I would like to see us hit 100 percent this year. I also look forward to seeing what percentage of those who created a plan completed it! I know all of you have been invested in this work. This year, we want to better align staff plans with the annual performance evaluation period so they can be considered as part of the evaluation process. Please let your supervisor know if you have any questions.

Hiring staff to mirror our diverse student population is vital to DSA’s success. To aid you in that process here are some external job sites where you can share open positions. You will need to work with Human Resources’ Talent Acquisition to ensure the posting is shared on external sites.

As you saw in last week’s In the Know, the DSA Diversity Council is asking that you take a short survey of which the results will help improve the accessibility practices within the division. The survey is open until 6 p.m. on Aug. 13.

I have sent you monthly diversity and equity messages for the past 13 months and periodic messages from me will continue but I am happy to share that we also are adding a diversity section to our division’s e-newsletter In the Know. This will allow us to share important updates with you more often. Please be sure to look for In the Know every other Thursday and once the semester begins it will publish each week.

Thank you for your continued efforts in this crucial work we are doing.

Take care,

Elizabeth With Ed.D.

Vice President for Student Affairs
