VP Message - Fall 2018 Mid-Semester Updates

Dear Division of Student Affairs Team,

It’s hard to believe, but we are already half-way through the fall semester, and I know it has been a busy one for everyone. Thank you for all of the work that you continue to do for our students each semester.

Here are the division’s Areas of Focus for 2018-2019 that I presented at the DSA Kick-Off Breakfast. These are the items that we will be focusing on this academic year, and I would like each department to think about how they can help contribute to them.

As President Smatresk announced, he authorized merit raises for fiscal year 2019. Merit awards will be effective Nov. 1 and included in the Dec. 1 paychecks. Each DSA department has been allocated a 1.5% pool from which to distribute merit to staff based on outstanding job performances. I truly appreciate everything that you all do all year long, and merit is a way to recognize those who consistently go above and beyond their job duties to help the university achieve its goals. In order to be eligible for merit, staff must have been employed with the university in a retirement and insurance eligible position on or before May 1, 2018, without a break in service; must not have received a formal disciplinary action (i.e. written warning, final written warning or suspension) between Nov. 1, 2017, and Oct. 31, 2018, or currently be on a performance improvement plan; and must have a current fiscal year performance review document on file with the Campus Human Resources Department with an overall review rating of “good” or better.

As a reminder, UNT’s State Employee Charitable Campaign (SECC), which is an opportunity for you to support local, state, national and international charities through a one-time donation via cash, check or payroll deduction, is currently running through October. On Oct. 30, in the Hurley Administration Building lobby from 7:30 – 9 a.m., the DSA will be offering coffee and breakfast to anyone who contributes $2 or more (SECC forms will be available). As an added incentive, staff who contribute $2 or more will be allowed to wear jeans for one Wednesday of their choosing, and staff who contribute $5 or more will be allowed to wear jeans for each Wednesday of one month of their choosing (with their supervisor’s permission). Don’t forget that Homecoming 2018: Mean Green Game Show takes place next week, Oct. 22 – 27, and I encourage you to participate as much as you are able and help us celebrate our UNT pride. We will have drawings for tickets to the Oct. 27 and Nov. 15 home games, so watch your inboxes for those announcements.

I also hope to see you all at our division meeting on Nov. 5 at 8:30 a.m. in the Union Ballroom and at our DSA Holiday Party on Dec. 17 (details to come soon).
