VP Message - Fall 2018 Semester Welcome

Dear Division of Student Affairs Team,
Welcome to the fall semester! The 2018-2019 academic year is sure to be another busy one for us, and we have already had a great start with Mean Green Move-In Weekend, First Flight, Rec Sports Extravaganza, Mean Green Fling and our Distinguished Lecture Series. Thank you to everyone who helped with these events.
Also, thank you to everyone who assisted with the orientations over the summer. The work you did in preparing our new students for life at UNT is crucial to their success.
The diversity training we went through at our DSA Retreat this summer is equally important as we continue to learn how we can best meet the needs of our students. We will continue to work on this important area of focus for us at the upcoming Directors Retreat, and I hope great discussions about diversity and inclusion continue to take place in all departments throughout the year.
With our new Director of Advancement Arigayle Head and Director of Assessment Sara Ousby already hard at work, as well as a new division marketing plan that we will be rolling out, I know this will be an amazing year for us.
I hope to see all of you at our DSA Kick-Off Breakfast on Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. in the Union Ballroom, where we will be discussing our goals for the academic year. As you heard during our DSA Retreat, student retention is one of the university’s main priorities, and I believe we all can play a major part in this important initiative. I encourage you to do all that you can to ensure that our students have what they need to remain engaged and be successful.
Please continue to support our Athletics teams as well. There are still complimentary tickets available in Hurley 207 if you would like to attend the Sept. 1 home game against SMU, and feel free to stop by our Student Affairs tailgate area before the game.
