VP Message - We are here to support you in this difficult time

January 22, 2020

Dear students,

You may know by now that one of your fellow students was killed yesterday morning in an altercation with Denton Police. As President Smatresk said in his message, we are not releasing the students name at this time per request of the Denton Police Department and the Texas Rangers, pending family notification. A statement from the Denton Police Department can be read at https://www.cityofdenton.com/en-us/government/departments/police/dpd-news/officer-involved-shooting-(1)

I feel profound sadness at the loss of this member of our Mean Green family.

Many of you will feel the effects of this loss in the days ahead and I want you to know we will be here to support you through this process. Counseling will be available today from 10 a.m. to noon in Chestnut Hall, Room 311 and from 3 to 5 p.m. in the University Union, Room 338. Buddy, a therapy poodle with Counseling and Testing Services also will be available.

I also wanted to share some resources for you to be aware of if you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues.
