Well, this year continues to throw new challenges our way as we now wait to see who will lead our country for the next four years.
Please know that no matter the outcome of this election, DSA’s and UNT’s commitment and unwavering support to not only ensuring the success of our students, faculty, and staff but also to diversity, equity, and inclusion remains unchanged. We will continue to respect, value, and celebrate diversity in our community.
I hope we will take this opportunity to come together and focus on our strengths and aspirations—and how we can best support each other.
To that end, Counseling and Testing Services is providing resources for our community. There is a post-election stress kit available and you can join the Post-Election Drop-in Support from 1 to 5 p.m. today through Friday.
As Student Affairs professionals we are in the unique and crucial position of ensuring that our student’s and staff’s ethnicity, race, gender, abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, political views, or religious beliefs do not become an obstacle to their success. We have a truly awesome responsibility and that work must continue no matter who resides in the White House.
Whichever side we stood on in this election, let’s not forget to treat each other with respect and dignity. Let’s remember that everyone has a contribution to make to the University of North Texas and the United States because we are stronger for our differences.
Elizabeth With, Ed.D.
