VP Message- Remembering George Floyd- May 25th

Dear DSA,

Today marks one year since the murder of George Floyd. My heart is with his family and friends today.

His death at the hands of a former Minneapolis police officer led to an outpouring of rage, empathy, protests and much-needed and overdue change across our country and at UNT.

As we mark this solemn day, please continue to support one another especially our Black staff and students. Remember that students can reach out to UNT’s Counseling and Testing Services at 940-565-2741 or counselingandtestingservices@unt.edu. Faculty and staff can access UNT System’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which offers free counseling (including same-day sessions if in crisis) to active and retired employees, as well as members of their household. The EAP can be accessed 24-hours-a-day, seven days a week by calling 1-800-343-3822. To access benefits online, visit https://www.awpnow.com and enter AWP-UNT-384 when prompted for a code. You can learn more about our EAP at https://hr.untsystem.edu/employee-assistance-program.

I want to thank each of you who have in your own way contributed to the progress we have made in our division and university this past year. For example, I appreciate the way you embraced the diversity plans created last fall and I know that our community will be positively impacted by these efforts.

Much more work remains and I feel heartened to know that you will continue to support each other and our students as we strive to make our campus an inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.

Take care,

Elizabeth With Ed.D.

Vice President for Student Affairs
