A year ago today we launched what began as the Parent and Family Hotline and later transitioned to the COVID-19 Hotline to assist our community with the rapid changes and havoc the COVID-19 pandemic unleashed.
More than 100 of you have stepped up in the 365 days and 2,350+ hours since and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I think back to a year ago when the pandemic was first hitting us and all of the uncertainty, fear, and confusion that was prevalent in our lives. When you stepped up and gave your time to staff the hotline, you helped to assuage those dark moments and I am so grateful as are the many students, parents, faculty, and staff who were on the other end of the more than 6,700 calls that we’ve received so far.
You have, at times, given up your evenings and weekends to answer these calls. You soothed the fears and concerns of our community while processing your feelings about this difficult time. I know that many of these conversations were difficult and at times contentious and yet you handled them with grace, kindness, and compassion.
With the prevalence of testing and vaccinations happening now, there is light at the end of our COVID pandemic tunnel. The hotline will be retired at some point but your efforts will not be forgotten.
Thank you so much for all that you did to make this past year a little bit easier for so many.
With my sincere gratitude,
Elizabeth With Ed.D.
