The Big Event

Join the Center for Leadership and Service for our re-imagined Big Event! This year’s Big Event will be held on-campus, where we will be working with three local Denton community partners, Keep Denton Beautiful, Explorium Denton Children's Museum and The Salvation Army of North Texas. You will have the unique opportunity to select which organization you would like to work with for the day! Read below for more information about each organization and what project they will be hosting that day.

Keep Denton Beautiful (Environmental Project)
“For over three decades, Keep Denton Beautiful has partnered with Denton neighborhoods, businesses, community groups, and families to achieve our vision of a clean, beautiful, vibrant city. KDB has opportunities for volunteers to create a clean and beautiful Denton in four program areas – litter cleanups, urban forestry, beautification, and youth education.”

Project(s): Helping assemble seed ball packets for planting. In addition, KDB will also be providing an educational component to their project.

Explorium Denton Children’s Museum (Youth Project)
“Our Mission “Engage. Explore. Educate.” We believe that children should be able to explore their curiosities in a safe environment. Engaging the community, including the family unit, is imperative in a child’s development. To educate children means more than sending them to school. We want to provide opportunities for children to experience the wonder and excitement of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through hands-on exhibits, multimedia, and content-rich programs that encourage exploration, engage the learner, and ultimately educate the child. Our purpose is to provide opportunities for children and their families to learn and play together.”

Project(s): Helping assemble kits for their upcoming fundraiser ‘Kites for Kids’ as well as helping sort bottle caps for their Buddy Bench project.

The Salvation Army of North Texas (Homelessness Awareness Project)
“Backed by 131 years of expertise, The Salvation Army of North Texas is uniquely positioned to respond to the changing needs of our community. Our footprint across 4,078 square miles in Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis and Tarrant counties makes us the largest Salvation Army Command in the world. But more importantly, it allows us to reach our most vulnerable neighbors in every pocket of North Texas.”

Project(s): Helping assemble hygiene kits for their residents as well as writing an encouraging note to include with each kit.
