What did you want to be when you were growing up?

A singer and a teacher.

Other than your current job, what careers did you work toward?

Opera singer, music teacher, counselor, and academic advisor.

When you were in high school, how did you choose your career path?

My career in music came through extracurricular activities of concert choir, concert band, marching band, and dance. My career path for education was inspired from my grandmother, mother, third grade teacher, and music teachers.

Who inspires you?

My grandmother. She had only a seventh-grade education because she had to work as a share cropper, but she was the smartest woman I have ever known. She impressed upon me the importance of education and of educating others.

What three traits best describe you?

Dedicated, quick witted, and personable.

What are your skills or talents that most people don't know about?

A singer, especially an opera singer.

What's your favorite place in the world?

Pisa, Florence, and Rome.

If you could visit any place you've never been, where would you go?

Egypt.

What do you enjoy when you're not working or studying?

Relaxing, hanging out with family, listening to and/or creating music, watching TV, and doing crossword puzzles.

What are your favorite books and/or movies?

BOOKS: biographies, especially about music and singers. MOVIES: The Godfather, The Color Purple, Braveheart, The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, Red Dragon, Shrek, Ocean's Eleven, The Devil Wears Prada, and Red.

Who is your favorite musician/band?

Luciano Pavarotti and Denyce Graves (classical); Luther Vandross and Jill Scott (R&B); The Roots and Earth, Wind & Fire.

What is your favorite meal?

Fried chicken, turnip and collard greens, macaroni and cheese, buttered rolls, potato salad, and peach cobbler.
