UNT received the Commitment to Sustainability Award from the Southwest Affiliate of College and University Residence Halls (SWACURH) at its Regional Business Conference in February. The bid was selected by member schools of the region from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mexico. This coming May, the bid will represent the Southwestern Region and compete nationally against the seven other regions within the nation at the NACURH Annual Conference.

UNT won based on its We Mean Green Eggs and Ham bid, which was written by Ivey Sanchez, president of the Residence Hall Association (RHA), and Mirandy McNeely, president of the National Residence Hall Honorary, with assistance from Gary Cocke, former Student Sustainability/We Mean Green Fund coordinator.

The bid creatively outlined UNT’s history of sustainability initiatives and its most recent projects to the theme of Dr. Seuss’ Green Eggs and Ham book. View the bid here.

“It was an honor to work with Student Sustainability to showcase UNT’s efforts towards sustainability,” said McNeely. “The region was very impressed with UNT’s initiatives and progress. I was very proud to represent an institution that makes sustainability a priority.”

“While I’m proud to say that I was part of the team that wrote the bid, none of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts put forth by UNT for so long,” said Sanchez. “Through the work of Student Sustainability, Gary and UNT as a whole, the bid was able to come alive! I’m honored to attend a university so committed to sustainability.”
