SPRING SEMESTER - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 AM; and Sundays from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. *Team members will be given a schedule of practices at our new team meeting during our audition process.

What is the audition process?
Auditions are a multi-step process beginning with Application, Preliminary Audition, Semi-Final Audition, Personal Interview, Solo Presentation, and Final Auditions for selected candidates. The official squad members will be selected from participants in the Final Audition round. Plan on spending the whole day!

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and state/local regulations pending for June 2021, we highly recommend audition hopefuls begin to collect as much skill and choreography video footage during the spring to have as an option IF needed for our 2021-2022 auditions.

*Please note: We have NOT made final decisions on our audition process. This is a recommendation to audition hopefuls to get updated videos with skills and choreography needed for a possible in-person, hybrid option, or virtual audition. We will continue to monitor and make the best decision as quickly as we can.

If I am currently a high school senior but will not graduate until June, can I still audition and be selected?
Yes, as long as you are accepted into UNT by our audition dates.

Are Audition Prep Clinics Mandatory?
Audition Prep Clinics are non-mandatory clinics offered to provide excellent preparation for our upcoming audition(s). They are taught by current NTD squad members. You may attend one or all the clinics. *A “FREE PASS” to the final round of auditions will be given out at each clinic.

Are there certain dance moves that I must be able to perform at auditions?
The choreography in the dance combinations are different each year, and could include but is not limited to: a triple or quadruple pirouette, a la seconde turn sequences, headspring, and kip-up tricks. *Freestyle dance should be a blend of jazz/hip-hop that incorporates movements that you feel comfortable with technically. Throughout auditions, the most important performance quality is confidence!  So, with any of the dance elements, use great posture, strong, controlled movements and always, with a smile!

What should I wear to auditions?
▪       2-piece attire: Top: Dance/Athletic Bra Top (No Tank Tops) Bottom: Dance Shorts(No Biker Shorts); Male Dancers: Black Short Sleeve Shirt, Black Dance Shorts/Pants
▪       Dance shoes: jazz, pirouettes, sneakers/athletic shoes, (no socks or bare feet)
How should I wear my hair and make-up?
Make-up should compliment your natural beauty. Hair should be worn in a current hairstyle that compliments your features. Make sure your hair is styled down but does not hide your face. Male Dancers: Make sure that hair is neatly styled.

Are there any height and weight requirements?
We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements. You should look well-proportioned in dancewear.

May I try out if I have a tattoo?
Yes, you may audition if you have a tattoo. Our policy is that even the smallest of tattoos may not be visible in the uniform or in practice attire. There are many effective products available at stores or online.  Additionally, concealer, followed by setting powder, then bronzer to match color, can also be effective.

Can my family watch auditions?
All portions of our audition process will be closed to the public.

If I do not advance throughout the audition process will my application be kept on file?
No. You must re-apply with a new application, required paperwork and application processing fee each year.

If I am not selected as a North Texas Dancers squad member, may I call the UNT Student Activities Center office to receive my judges’ comments?
No. Yet you can email Brittani.Richards@unt.edu for feedback and/or critiques. Please allow a 3-4 week response time for the new team processing time.
