Commuter Week

Commuter Week is held every spring semester to honor and celebrate UNT students who commute to campus from outside of Denton. This week is also designed to create more awareness for our Commuters who have specific experiences. Commuter Week is filled with fun and informative events and programs offered by Off-Campus Student Services and other UNT Departments.


Commuter Week Events 2022: March 28th - April 1st  

In support of our commuter students, Dining Services is offering entry into any dining hall for just $6.50 (plus tax) for all UNT students living off campus for the duration of commuter week! Enjoy all-you-care-to-eat breakfast, lunch or dinner anytime Bruceteria, Champs, Eagle Landing, and Mean Greens Cafe. For an extra special deal, visit Kitchen West for $5.95 (plus tax). Simply present your valid UNT ID card, request the "Commuter Deal" and pay with credit/debit or contactless payment at the door. For dining hours: (click here)

Monday, March 28th: 

  • Grab n Go, 12pm-2pm, Eagle Lot 20 (W. Highland & University): Looking for a little snack on your way in to class, or finishing up a day of hard work? Stop by the Off-Campus Student Services table for a snack to tide you over until your next meal! Presented by Off Campus Student Services.

  • Don't Sing Your Life Away, 1:30-2:30pm, Zoom (click here): Learn what you need to know about signing a lease, common renting pitfalls, and how to make informed decisions as a renter. Presented by Student Legal Services. 

  • Hydration Station, 4:30-6:30pm, Hall Park B Lobby: Come by our table to fill up a UNT reusable water bottle with water and infusions like fresh lemon, cucumber, mint, and more. Add some excitement to your day and get tips on how to effectively hydrate during a long day or commute! Presented by UNT at Frisco Student Services. 

  • Self-care and Succulents, 5:30-6:30pm, Chestnut Hall 324: Learn about caring for yourself while potting mini-succulents. Space is limited to first 40 participants. Presented by the Student Health and Wellness Center. 

  • Scent Event, 6-8pm, Library Mall: Looking for a way to relax and explore some new sensations? This aroma therapy event will help you relax and give you the opportunity to make your own essential oil scents! Presented by the University Program Council. 

  • Legally Blonde, 7pm, Union Lyceum: Come on out and catch this free movie with a side of fresh popcorn! Presented by UPCinema. 

Tuesday, March 29th:

  • Transfer Center Connections & Coffee, 9-11am, Union 385: Join the Transfer Center for coffee and conversations! Stop by for a morning boost, and meet other transfer and commuter students as we celebrate and recognize Commuter Week 2022! Presented by Orientation and Transition Programs. 

  • Cesar Chavez Day of Action, 4:00-6:30pm, Union 333: Join us as we celebrate the monumental efforts of civil rights and labor movement activist Cesar Chavez. The event will include a resource fair highlighting UNT departments, student organizations, and community partners, followed by a documentary screening of "Cesar Chavez: The Power of Non Violence" and a panel of experts to answer your questions! Presented by the Center for Leadership and Service, The Multicultural Center and Office of Outreach.

  • Professional Picture Day, 4:30-6pm, Union 341A (inside 337): Are you in need of an updated professional headshot? Not to worry! OCSS has you covered. Join us for your FREE digital professional picture. Let us help you be sure a potential employer sees you at your best! Presented by Off-Campus Student Services. 

  • Salary Negotiations with the Game of Life, 5:30-7pm, Union 314C: Want to achieve the skills needed to negotiate your salary? Learn about common negotiating tactics that can help you be in control of your proper worth. Discuss and explore web and print resources that maintain accurate descriptions of company pay and benefits. Avoid selling yourself short and learn to negotiate a fair and balanced salary and benefits package. Presented by the Student Money Management Center and the Graduate Student Council. 

  • Arthouse Film Series: Belfast, 6-7:40pm, Union Lyceum: Free screening! Belfast is a semi-autobiographical film which chronicles the life of a working class family and their young son's childhood during the tumult of the late 1960s in the Northern Ireland capital. Presented by Union Arts. 

  • Make-Up Tutorial, 6-8pm, Union 268: A makeup application workshop that includes masculine, feminine, and other styles- anything that feels good! Join us for the chill atmosphere and stay for the great community with QT folks learning and sharing tips. Makeup will be provided and will be limited so feel free to bring your own too! Presented by Pride Alliance. 

Wednesday, March 30th:

  • Housing Fair, 11am-1pm, Library Mall: If you have been wondering where you will live next semester, next year, or event looking for options to move into now, this event will serve as a wonderful resource for you. We will connect you with representatives from area properties and housing resources, all in one place. With properties bringing floor plans, price breakdowns, and move-in specials, this event will help you find housing in the Denton area! In the event of rain, the Housing Fair will be held on April 6th. Presented by Off-Campus Student Services. 

  • Women in STEM Brunch, 11am-1pm, Union 333: Let's celebrate women in STEM with this panel discussion and treat filled brunch! Presented by University Program Council. 

  • Communication Professional Networking Event, 5-7pm, Union 314: The Communication Networking Event is an opportunity to network and talk with employers about opportunities in communication positions in a variety of industries, including internships, part-time, and full-time positions. You will also have the opportunity to hear industry insights from employers in a panel format. Open to all majors and attire is business casual. Presented by the Career Center. 

  • Fulbright U.S. Student Program drop-in advising, 5-6:30pm, Marquis Hall 130: Come check out all the opportunities that the Fulbright U.S. Student Program has to offer here at UNT! Get advise on how you can explore the world teaching English, conduct research projects and enroll in graduate coursework abroad! Presented by the UNT Fulbright Program. 

  • 2000's Trivia, 6-7:30pm, Union Lyceum: This trivia is so fetch! Come on out and test your knowledge on 2000's era trivia and win great prices! 

  • A Seat at the Table: a Black Queer & Trans perspective, 6:30-8:30pm, Union 333C: Panelists will discuss the intersections of their identities and how they navigate the world. A beverage bar will be included and we encourage attendees to bring snacks or dinner if they need. Open to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Presented by Pride Alliance, BlackOUT Alliance, & the UNT Multicultural Center. 

Thursday, March 31st:

  • Beginning Embroidery with Good Fibrations, 2-4pm, Union 341: Join us for beginners embroidery class and take home your own hoop of sample stitches to help you begin your embroidery journey! Limited to the first 30 students-first come, first serve. Presented by Union Arts. 

  • Supports and Services at UNT as a Student with a Disability, 3:30-5pm, Zoom (Click Here): Our office will share about the academic accommodation process at UNT, well as other supports and services on campus to promote inclusion and access for students with disabilities. Presented by the Office of Disability Access. 

  • OCSS at Frisco Professional Picture Day, 4:30-6:30pm, Hall Park A 114: Join us at the UNT Frisco Campus for a free professional headshot! Let us help you be sure a potential employer sees you at your best! Presented by Off-Campus Student Services and UNT at Frisco Student Services. 

  • University Day Frisco Celebration, 4:30-6:30pm, Hall Park B Lobby: University day marks the transition from Texas State College to North Texas State University. In, celebration of UNT's transition into a university, we're celebrating with food, giveaways, and a UNT Birthday photo booth. Presented by UNT at Frisco Student Services. 

  • Art Gallery Reception, 5-6:30pm, Union 2nd Floor Gallery: Stop by for a catered reception celebrating the newest art exhibition in the Union Art Gallery! Presented by Union Arts. 

  • Library Day, 4:30-6:30pm, Willis Library 340 (3rd Floor): Here is an opportunity to explore everything UNT Libraries has to offer, and an opportunity to explore the top 10 themes for getting started at UNT Libraries. You will have the opportunity to ask the librarian about services, collections, and the basics. We will get you the links you need so you can learn more about services and collections that interest you! A tour will be offered at the end of the presentation.   • UPCinema: Mean Girls, 7pm, Union Lyceum: Bring your squad and come see a free screening of Mean Girls with free popcorn! Presented by Union Program Council. 

Friday, April 1st: 

  • University Day, 11am-1:30pm, Library Mall (Union 314/333 if Rain): University Day, first held May 10th, 1961, marks the day that North Texas State College became North Texas State University. This year, we're celebrating UNT with a large bash including vendors, student organizations and departments, the annual flag parade, and free food! This event is free with UNT ID. Presented by Student Activities. 

  • North by North Texas, 2-10pm, Library Mall/Syndicate: You won't want to miss our biggest event of the semester! This music festival has multiple national acts! Peep our socials for the artists reveal. Presented by Union Program Council. 

  • QT Art Show Reception, 4-6pm, Union 335: Join us for the opening reception in support of The Pride Alliance hosting the first ever UNT QT Student Art Show this semester for Pride Week! Student artists will submit their work for a showcase of the Queer and Trans talent on campus! The work will be on display inside of the Multicultural Center and on the outer wall of the Union Gallery from April 1st to April 15th.
