Orientation Details

  • How do I register for orientation?

Registration for orientation is available through the MyUNT portal at my.unt.edu. Click Advising & Orientation and then Register for Orientation. As orientation sessions reach capacity, they are removed from the site and no longer available for registration.

If you need to change your orientation date, we can assist you remotely. Email us at freshman@unt.edu or transfer@unt.edu with your student ID number and the date you wish to change to. As long as the session you wish to change to has not reached registration capacity, we will change your orientation session.

  • What is my orientation date?
    Spring 2021

Your orientation is scheduled over the course of a week to allow you time to complete all requirements. You do not have to log in for orientation each day during your scheduled session. But, you do need to complete all orientation requirements within the week.

    Summer/Fall 2021

At this time, we are planning to offer both in-person and virtual Freshman and Transfer Orientation experiences for Summer/Fall 2021. Please note that this could change due to the evolving nature of COVID-19 and its impacts.

  • Why are we staying in specific dates for the virtual orientation?

Maintaining original orientation dates allows us the ability to set-up virtual communities for you to connect with your peers, faculty, and staff at UNT. This also helps us manage our processes to assist you with your new student orientation.

  • Is there a specific time the virtual orientations will be accessible to me?

Yes. You will receive an email to your UNT email with information on how to access the virtual orientation. You will receive this email the week of your scheduled orientation session.

  • Can I still come to campus?

UNT is currently serving students and guests remotely and on-campus. View our updated hours of operation on our About Us page.

  • Cost & Payment Options

  • When do I pay for orientation?

You must provide payment with your reservation to secure a spot in an orientation session. Payment can be made online through your my.unt.edu portal or in the Orientation and Transition Programs office (Union 377). Your space will not be reserved until payment is received.

  • What does my orientation fee cover?

Your fee is used for program implementation and staffing, orientation publications, meals, and facilities used during orientation. The fee also provides year-round orientation programming for all new students.

  • What if I cannot pay for my orientation?

Financial constraints will not prohibit you from attending orientation. Students who have applied for financial aid can elect to have their full orientation fee deferred to their student account. To receive a fee deferment for your full orientation fee, complete the form below.

    Fee Deferment Request Form

  • Is there a cost difference for the virtual orientation?

Yes. We have reduced our orientation fee for the virtual orientation experience. We know that during this time of uncertainty finances are a great concern. While making the decision to move our programs online, we evaluated our program budget and reviewed the fees that students pay for orientation.

  • If I paid and registered for orientation but decide not to attend UNT, can I cancel my orientation?

A student can cancel their orientation registration at least 5 business days prior to their scheduled orientation date and receive a full refund. To cancel your orientation registration and/or request a refund in advance, please visit our How to Register page.

If you missed your orientation date or need to reschedule, please email us at freshman@unt.edu or transfer@unt.edu with your student ID number and the date you would like to reschedule to. Please refer to the Freshman Orientation page or Transfer Orientation page to see the remaining sessions.

  • Academic Advising and Course Registration

  • When will I meet with my advisor?

Students will have a virtual academic advising session during their orientation date. Details of signing up for a specific time will be provided in the confirmation email you will receive the week leading up to your scheduled orientation session.

  • What should I do if I want to change my major?

The confirmation email you receive prior to your orientation session will have a survey for you to complete, asking you to confirm your major. It is common for students to apply to the university intending to major in something and then change their minds prior to or during orientation. The major confirmation survey will help us share information with the colleges and schools to prepare for your academic advising session.

Please note, you must be auditioned and accepted into the College of Music before changing your major to Music.

  • Family & Guest Orientation

  • What will the virtual orientation be like for family members and guests?
    Spring 2021

Join the Parent Programs team during our New Parent and Family Question & Answer Sessions. These sessions are hosted on various Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. CST via Zoom. To see available sessions, visit our Family and Guest Orientation webpage.
