Student Organization of the Month

November 2020's Winner

Congratulations to Active Minds for winning November’s Student Org of the Month! Active Minds has worked diligently to ensure students are staying connected and taking care of their mental health. Out of all of the difficulties this year has brought, we’ve aimed to be a constant presence for the UNT community. This semester alone, we’ve held over 30 events and meetings for UNT students to get connected with resources and learn more about mental health. These events range from general meetings to counselor chats (where students get to meet counselors from Counseling and Testing Services), to workshops, and more. Our goal through hosting these meetings is to decrease the stigma surrounding mental health on campus and connect peers with one another. Furthermore, our chapter was ranked #2 in fundraising for spirit week with a grand total of $1,420 of peer-to-peer fundraising!

October 2020's Winner

Congratulations to the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) for winning October’s Student Org of the Month! ! They have created innovative meetings to combat not being able to meet in-person. VSA has taken to streaming on Twitch and Instagram Live to maintain member interaction and allow members to watch an entertaining show while getting information about the organization. They have also established a family system, where members can have mentors and a little community within VSA to help them adjust to college life and meet more people. In addition, they collaborated with other VSA chapters for a live stream fundraiser and raised over $1,200 for the Sunflower Mission, which helps build schools and educate children in Vietnam!

September 2020's Winner

Congratulations to Material Advantage (MA) for winning September’s Student Org of the Month! MA promotes Materials Science and Engineering that is open to all STEM fields. The main goal of the organization is to encourage interest and train young students in the field of Materials Science and Engineering to prepare them in joining the workforce, in contributing to research, and in being engaged through fun and creative hands-on activities. "To achieve the goal, we promote both educational and professional resources. Members are given opportunities to connect with companies in the area through alumni and industrial panel talks, hone necessary skills through resume workshops, and learn more from seminars hosted by professionals in the field. They are also offered chances to attend annual conferences and compete on a national level in the yearly Quiz Bowl. The organization has been engaged in an outreach program with the Girl Scouts to inculcate their interest in STEM. This summer, MA’s involvement in NASA’s STEM Stars Event outreach gained the attention of students and teachers across Europe! Despite the pandemic, the organization has been actively involved in offering real opportunities to both members and non-members through webinars with speakers from across the country, institutions, and fields within Materials Science."
