Title & Department: Career Coach for the Career Center

"As a Career Coach, I specifically serve the College of Science student population and ultimately help them through their decision process of careers after graduating. Mainly, I meet with students one-on-one and we go over a wide range of topics such as how to write a resume, what can I do with my major/degree, where or how do I find jobs and internships, how to build your professional network and how to prepare for an interview."

How do you work with students? --- "I meet with students one on one but also host our repeating semester event, Broaden Your Scope. Broaden Your Scope allows for students to put their networking skills to practice and form connections with different science industry employers in the DFW area."

How does your department work with students? --- "Our department has career coaches in every single college that do what I do, and more depending on the student population they work with. What I do in the College of Science will look different compared to what the career coaches in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences because we meet the needs of our students. Furthermore, the Career Center has an Employer Services division which hosts all the of the Career Fairs and other Professional Networking events each semester. They also things such as On-Campus Interviews and also partners with other departments on campus to serve the career and professional needs of students."

What is your favorite part about working at UNT? --- "My favorite part about working at UNT is obviously working with my students. They are the entire reason I am here and my main motivation because I want to see them succeed, especially after college."

What does Student Affairs mean to you? --- "Student Affairs means to me taking care of the needs of our students. Careers is a large part of them as well as other parts such as healthcare and money management. When I hear Student Affairs I hear that it is our job to ensure they get everything they can out of their college degree and experience at UNT."

How have UNT students impacted your life? --- "Students have made me more patient but also more motivated to serve them. Student life is a hard life; it is emotionally and physically taxing and I can see that especially in my College of Science students. They have made me more driven to match their hard work and ensure their hard work pays off after they graduate."

Fun fact about you? --- "I studied abroad in Surrey, UK during the COVID-19 Pandemic and was maybe one of five on a 8 hour flight to the UK."
