The UNT First-Generation Success Center is excited to announce that the Spring and Summer 2024 graduation stole application is open! 

The First-Gen Stole application will open at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5 and close at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1. Stoles are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Once registration reaches capacity, a wait list will be available and stoles cannot be guaranteed.

In order to receive a stole you must plan to graduate at the end of Spring or Summer 2024 with an undergraduate or graduate-level degree AND complete at least one of the following engagement activities:


1. Attend LEGO of the Past & BUILD Your Future

  • Graduation is exciting, but can also be scary! Let’s face it, this journey hasn’t been easy. Centering around practical tips to practice mindfulness, this workshop will reaffirm that we can, we did and we will! Presentation by Erika Cole, UNT Counseling & Testing.

2. Attend Resume Glow-Up: Resume Tips & Glow Sticks!

  • Does your resume need a GLOW-UP?  The UNT Career Center will be providing expert tips to make your resume stand out from the crowd. Staff will be available to review your resume and give instant feedback – so bring a printed copy or laptop to this event. Don’t have a resume? No problem, we’ll give you a template to get started!  We’ll dim the lights, play music and break out the glowsticks to celebrate our new-and-improved resumes.

3. Attend A New Era: Job Searching Outside of Your Major

  • It’s not uncommon for new graduates to want to explore careers in areas outside of their majors.  Corey Davidson, with the UNT Career Center, will help us navigate job searching strategies and discuss ways to identify & market your transferrable skills.

4. Attend Linked-In Workshop

  • You hear it all the time… Linked-In is an important resource for all students – but what can you really do with it? This session will cover how to use the Linked-In platform to expand your professional network and search for internships or jobs.  Students are encouraged to have their Linked-In profile pulled up on a phone or laptop during the event to edit your profile in real time!

5. Attend First-Generation Professional Panel

  • 4:00 – 5:00 PM
  • Union 332
  • How do you go about making the transition from being a first-gen student to being a full-time professional? Do you have any specific questions you’d like to ask someone who’s “been there and done that”?   Join us for an informal and interactive panel with associates from Capital One on March 21st.  The panel will share their stories and offer advice for the next generation of first-gen grads.

6. Attend Networking Mixer with Capital One

  • 5:00 – 6:30 PM

  • Networking is like learning to play a musical instrument – the more you practice, the better you’ll get! Come out and practice your networking skills with associates from Capital One. We’ll provide sample conversation questions during a round of “Speed Networking”,  giving you the opportunity to make valuable connections with professionals – regardless of your major. This event will feature a complimentary macaroni & cheese bar and other light refreshments!

7. Schedule and complete a 1-on-1 coaching appointment with a First Generation Success Center team member between February 5 and March 29, 2024.

  • Appointments must be scheduled using Navigate (appointments.unt.edu)
  • Appointments can be held on Zoom or in-person at the UNT Denton campus.

  • Stoles must be picked up in-person at the UNT Denton or Frisco campuses. Pick-Up information will be emailed to approved applicants. Unfortunately, we are not able to mail stoles at this time.
  • Are you graduating in Fall 2024?  Registration for First-Gen Graduation Stoles for students graduating in December 2024 will open in October 2024. Information will be emailed, posted on Instagram and our website: firstgen.unt.edu as we get closer to the Fall ’24 semester.
