Requirements

  • Must be accepted into the University of North Texas at the time of auditions
  • You must be able to attend all practices, games, and other related activities throughout the entire season
  • All necessary documentation (insurance and academic paperwork) to participate   

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What type of commitment is required if chosen as an NTD squad member?  TOTAL COMMITMENT IS REQUIRED!!!! Activities include practices appearances, community service events, games, competition, travel, dance clinics, and performances.
  • Are there any program benefits? Scholarship, Priority Class Registration, Reserved Housing in a Newer Dormitory Hall(s), Team Issued Nike Athletic Apparel and Uniforms, Team Travel (Football, Basketball, Performance, and Competition), Strength & Conditioning, Team Nutritionist, Sports Psychology, Athletic Training and Sports Medicine are provided to each member of our program. 
  • Are there any financial obligations for NTD squad members? There are no major financial obligations. However, there are specific cosmetic items that team members will be required to purchase for the season. As well as team members must participate in various fundraisers throughout the year to help fund program costs. 
  • When do practices begin? All practices are held during weekday mornings. Fall & Spring semesters are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:00-8:30 AM and Sundays from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM. *Team members will be given a schedule of practices at our new team meeting during our audition process.
  • What is the audition process? Auditions are a multi-step recruitment process beginning with Interest Form and Preliminary Video Qualification (video bypass opportunity), Semifinal Video Qualification (invitation only), Final Interview Round (invitation only),  and Live Audition Showcase. The official squad members will be selected from participants offered a roster spot through our Recruitment Process as well as limited spots in the Final Live Audition round.
  • If I am currently a high school senior but will not graduate until June, can I still audition and be selected? Yes, as long as you are accepted into UNT by our audition date in Spring 2024.
  • Are Recruitment Clinics Mandatory?  Recruitment Clinics are non-mandatory clinics offered to provide excellent preparation for our recruitment process. They are taught by current NTD squad members. You may attend one or all clinics. *A "VIDEO BYPASS” to our final interview audition round will be given out at each clinic.
  • Are there certain dance moves that I must be able to perform at auditions?  The choreography in the dance combinations are different each year, and could include but is not limited to: a triple or quadruple pirouette, a la seconde turn sequences, headspring, and kip-up tricks. *Freestyle dance should be a blend of jazz/hip-hop that incorporates movements that you feel comfortable with technically. Throughout auditions, the most important performance quality is confidence!  So, with any of the dance elements, use great posture, strong, controlled movements and always, with a smile!
  • What should I wear to auditions? 2-piece attire: Top: Dance/Athletic Bra Top (No Tank Tops) Bottom: Dance Shorts(No Biker Shorts); Male Dancers: Black Short Sleeve Shirt, Black Dance Shorts/Pants Dance shoes: jazz, pirouettes, sneakers/athletic shoes, (no socks or bare feet)
  • How should I wear my hair and make-up? Make-up should compliment your natural beauty. Hair should be worn in a current hairstyle that compliments your features. Make sure your hair is styled down but does not hide your face. Male Dancers: Make sure that hair is neatly styled. 
  • Are there any height and weight requirements? We DO NOT have specific height and weight requirements. You should wear dancewear that flatters your body type.
  • May I try out if I have a tattoo? Yes, you may audition if you have a tattoo. Our policy is that large tattoos may not be visible in uniform or in practice attire. There are many effective products available at stores or online.  Additionally, concealer, followed by setting powder, then bronzer to match color, can also be effective.
  • Can my family watch auditions? All portions of our audition process will be closed to the public.
  • If I do not advance throughout the audition process will my application be kept on file? No. You must re-apply with a new application, required paperwork and application processing fee each year.
  • If I am not selected as a North Texas Dancers squad member, may I call the UNT Student Activities Center office to receive my judges' comments? No. Yet you can email Brittani.McLaurin@unt.edu for feedback and/or critiques. Please allow a 3-4 week response time for our new team processing time.
