The US Department of Education and Office for Civil Rights released new Title IX requirements regarding pregnant and parenting students in June 2013. Those students wishing to seek accommodations for Pregnancy and Parenting please submit the form linked with appropriate documentation. The Dean of Students office also offers a list of Pregnancy and Parenting Resources.
The requirements and suggestions include:
Absences that do not fall under Title IX Pregnancy and Parenting guidelines are deemed a matter between the student and their faculty member. If the absence is an illness or extenuating circumstance that exceeds 5 consecutive days, the faculty member may request for the student to provide documentation through the Dean of Students’ office. Examples include but not are limited to an extended medical absence or hospitalization or a major illness of a family member or loved one. You can contact the Dean of Students Office at 940-565-2648 or deanofstudents@unt.edu.
Non-Traditional and Commuter Student Support proudly partners with Transportation Services to provide Stork Parking for our students who are expecting and new parents. Pregnant students or new parents are encouraged to sign up for Expectant Parent Parking. UNT's main campus and Discovery Park campuses now have designated spaces set aside for pregnant or new parent students to hopefully make getting across campus more accessible from the parameter commuter lots!
Expectant Parent Parking spaces on the Denton main campus are located in Lot 20, Fouts Field, right next to the North Texas Blvd bus stop allowing students easier access to the UNT shuttles to bring them to the interior of campus.
Expectant Parent Parking spaces at Discovery Park are located in Lot 93 with easier access to the east entrance of the building.
Non-Traditional and Commuter Student Support provides a New Parent Basic Needs Supply closet for our expecting or new student parents. To access the supply closet, student must be enrolled in at least one class. The supply closet houses basic needs supplies such as diapers, pacifiers, bibs, clothing items for infants, and more. Non-Traditional and Commuter Student Support will host donation drives throughout the year where UNT students, faculty and staff or our friends in the community can donate supplies for the closet.
For more information about our supply closet, please email nontrads@unt.edu.
