The UNT Community Garden is home to many native Texas plants found around Legends Hall's edges. A We Mean Green Fund project proposed in spring 2021 by a community garden student member seeks to expand
and enhance the native flower beds and provide more food sources for pollinators. In
addition to increasing the flower bed size and planting new flowering species, this student-led project
will also add hardscaping to the landscaped area providing enhanced garden aesthetics.
A stone border will mimic the natural flow of a river or stream, inspired by eco-artist
Andy Goldsworthy. The installation of this border will protect the native plants from
competitive invasion by nearby Bermuda grass and make maintenance of the area much
easier and more efficient for the Grounds crew and community garden volunteers. This beautiful pollinator
garden will undergo development during the 2021-2022 academic year.
This project is made possible through a collaboration between the UNT Community Garden staff/volunteers,
UNT Grounds, and the UNT community!
