Amy Ferman

Title & Department: Associate Director for Employer Development-Career Center

Bio: "I grew up in the Houston area and moved to Nacogdoches, Texas after high school where I received my Bachelor's degree in Communications from Stephen F. Austin State University. After college, I moved to Denton and received my first professional job in the Registrar's Office here at UNT. After two different roles in that office, I moved on to become an Academic Advisor in the College of Business. In 2012 I received my Master's degree in Higher Education and took a position in the Career Center where I been ever since. My husband is a middle school band director in Prosper and we live here in Denton with our son Jonah who is five and will start kindergarten in the fall."

What does your role entail/what do you do: "Currently, I work to get employers engaged with our students and alumni virtually as opposed to in-person, due to COVID. That involves them leading presentations on career-related topics and most often educating students on job and internship opportunities at their organizations. Our team puts on career fairs, information sessions, networking events, and many other activities, so it's our job to make sure students have ample career opportunities in their respective fields."

How have UNT students impacted your life: "I love working with our student assistants and graduate assistants who are proof that engaging with our department has made them more successful in their career pursuits. It is rewarding to see them on LinkedIn and other social media platforms and see how their experience with us led them to amazing opportunities."

What is your favorite part about working at UNT: "After working here for almost 20 years, I love seeing the growth of the institution and Denton as a whole. There are so many departments and programs that were not around in 2001 when I started, so it's certainly gratifying to see."

Fun fact about you: I am a lifelong “Seinfeld” lover. I still say that almost every situation I am in daily has been a Seinfeld episode.
