Nekiya is two-time graduate from the University of North Texas with her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Bachelors in Converged Broadcast Media. While working on her Master’s, Nekiya worked as an Assistant Community Director within the department of Housing and Residence Life. While in graduate school, Nekiya advocated for mental health and social justice by co-founding the Coalition of Black Counselors (CBC). She is passionate about working with underserved communities and consistently seeks advocacy and social justice opportunities to further enhance her competence in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Nekiya believes that her role is to provide students with a safe, genuine environment that is necessary for connection and collaboration as students work to navigate the nuisances of the college experience. When she isn’t in the office, you can find Nekiya advocating for mental health, spending time with friends and family, shopping, attempting new creative endeavors, or trying new foods.
