Pregnancy/Parenting
UNT is committed to compliance with Title IX, and to supporting the success of pregnant and parenting students, faculty, and staff. If you need access to lactation rooms across campus, or pregnancy/parenting accommodations, please find the corresponding resources below.
Lactation Rooms:
The UNT Dean of Students Office will provide access to UNT Community members (students, faculty, and staff) who need access to campus lactation rooms through this process. If you need access to lactation rooms across campus please fill out this form completely and you will be granted access as soon as possible. You will receive a confirmation email when access has been granted. If you have questions, please contact the Dean of Students at 940-565-2648 or at deanofstudents@unt.edu
Pregnancy/Parenting Accommodations:
The UNT Dean of Students Office will support pregnant and parenting students in various ways, determined on an individualized basis. The types of supports they can provide may include:
- Providing a Verified Absence slip for a student's absences because of pregnancy or related concerns, including recovery from childbirth, for as long as the student's doctor deems the absences to be medically necessary.
- Providing a Verified Absence slip for parenting students who need to take their children to doctors' appointments or to take care of their sick children as long as they provide proper documentation.
- Working with faculty to accommodate pregnancy or childbirth related absences and allow for make-up work.
If, as a result of pregnancy, you are experiencing a long-term disability now, you may be eligible for academic accommodations also through the Office of Disability Access. Please contact us at disability@unt.edu to inquire further.
Temporary Disabilities/Injuries
The ODA does not provide reasonable accommodations for temporary conditions such as broken bones, minor surgery with standard recovery times, pregnancy, colds or the flu. Temporary conditions are defined as conditions with an expected duration of less than six (6) months. We partner with our colleagues in the Dean of Students office for these accommodations.
There is no legal requirement for UNT to accommodate temporary illnesses and unfortunately, your professors may or may not allow you to make up missed work due to temporary illnesses or provide other adjustments.
You should contact the Dean of Students Office (linked here) if you would like to pursue supports for temporary disabilities/injuries. You may also complete this form.
