UNT Student Legal Services is once again partnering with Student Goverment Associtation and the Denton Municipal Court to host Court on Campus this semester. Below are some frequently asked questions that may help you determine if this event is right for you.
Student Legal Services is having an information session about Court on Campus on April 10th from 1pm-2pm in Chestnut Hall 120.
Court-on-Campus is an annual event where the Denton Municipal Court comes to the University of North Texas campus to offer court services to students. The event is held in the UNT Union, Room 332. This is an opportunity for students to meet with court staff and address their citations directly with the Denton Municipal Court without leaving the campus.
This event will be held in the UNT Union, Room 332 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on April 15th.
A warrant is a document issued by a judge that authorizes an individual’s arrest. A warrant may be issued for different reasons, but it usually occurs when an individual fails to appear at a hearing.
Yes. Please contact Student Legal Services if you have a warrant from the Denton Municipal Court. You will NOT be arrested, and your warrant fee can be waived by the judge.
Court-on-Campus is for currently enrolled UNT students who have received a citation filed with the Denton Municipal Court.
You must contact Student Legal Services BEFORE the date on your citation to have your case moved to the Court-on-Campus event.
At the event, students can meet with court staff, discuss their citations, pay fines, seek alternate methods of payment, request extensions, or seek other solutions regarding their legal matters. It provides court services in a student-friendly environment without leaving the campus.
No. Attending Court-on-Campus is voluntary. If you choose not to attend Court-on-Campus, then you must address your citation with the Denton Municipal Court.
No. Court-on-Campus will allow you to meet with court staff, but legal advice is typically not provided. If you need specific legal counsel, it may be best to consult with an attorney at Student Legal Services BEFORE the event.
No. There is no cost to attend the event. However, if you have a citation, you may be required to pay fines or fees as part of resolving your case.
