Garden Workdays

  • Open for anyone to attend, garden workdays are opportunities for community service and plot maintenance. Come learn about how to garden by working alongside beginners and seasoned gardeners alike. 
  • Workdays are scheduled throughout the year. Check the event schedule or email CommunityGarden@unt.edu for more information. Maintenance activities include pulling weeds, planting new flower beds, turning compost, and other special projects. Come dressed to get dirty, bring water, and don't forget to check the weather!
  • After attending, log your service hours to work towards earning your Environmental Volunteerism Graduation Cord.

Gardening Workshops

  • Guest speakers cover topics such as Gardening 101, Top 10 Plants for North Texas Growing, Pest Identification, and more. These workshops are always open for anyone to attend for free, however priority seating will be given to the UNT Community Garden plot owners.
  • Speakers range from the Denton County Master Gardeners Association, UNT faculty, and even students. If you would like to present at a workshop, please contact CommunityGarden@unt.edu.

Plot Ownership

  • Previous gardening experience is NOT necessary, all supplies are provided by the We Mean Green Fund, and there are no fees to join!
  • UNT student organizations, student groups, and UNT departments and offices are encouraged to apply for plot ownership throughout the year! If there are no available plots, the application will be placed next in line on the waiting list.
  • Groups are required to have at least 5 members, must be able to attend garden workdays, and must be able to maintain the plot for a full year (including summer!!!)
