Community Partner Highlight: UNT SER

One of our own UNT partners is being highlighted today! Read more about UNT SER from their outreach coordinator, Gabriela Caceres!

    • Gabriela Caceres, SER Outreach Coordinator
  2. What is your organization and what does it do
    • Our organization is the UNT chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER)! We provide a community for students, faculty, and staff to get involved in environmental sciences. We have chapter meetings where people can socialize and learn. We also work on restoration projects, like the Pollinative Prairie located at Discovery Park.
  3. What is your organization’s mission?
    • Advocate, and assist in, the restoration of the local ecosystem to provide clear, effective, and applied restoration opportunities that serve the diverse University of North Texas community.
  4. Why did you choose to work in this field?
    • I have always been passionate about the environment! I have a love for birds and reptiles, and was able to get experience working with both after choosing to get a degree here at UNT. I love doing field work outside, and it's a great way to actually apply my passion! I love SER as well, and want to help more people get involved in hands-on environmental work.
  5. What led you to work with the Center for Leadership and Service?
    • We work with the Center for Leadership and Service to help provide information to prospective UNT SER members.
  6. What is your favorite initiative that you have worked on so far?
    • Through SER, I love working on the Pollinative Prairie. It is full of different species, and it is very rewarding getting to work hands-on with native species and helping to build up such an important ecosystem.
  7. What would you say to students who want to get involved?
    • Reach out! If you are passionate about anything environmental, whatever it may be, there will be people who feel the same way. SER is an amazing place to make connections and learn! If you are interested in joining, contact us at unt.ser.officers@gmail.com!
