Two UNT Counseling and Testing Services staff members, Jay Darr and Steffanie Grossman, received prestigious awards from the American College Counseling Association (ACCA) at the 2018 ACCA Annual Conference in February.

Darr, clinical liaison-Athletics and TAO coordinator, received the Counselor of the Year Award, which honors a college counselor who has made a significant impact on the national, state or local level.

“It’s truly an honor to be recognized among colleagues who dedicate their lives enhancing the well-being of students across the county,” said Darr. “An important aspect of doing the work you enjoy is the environment. UNT, Student Affairs and the CTS team create conditions that exemplify our strengths and challenges us to engage in courageous interactions to facilitate diversity and inclusion.”

Grossman, licensed psychologist, outreach & group coordinator and eating disorders & body image services specialist, received the Meritorious Service Award, which is presented to an individual who has demonstrated service to the profession of college counseling and/or to ACCA.

“I’m honored to have received this award and greatly appreciate my mentors who have shown me the importance of teamwork in best serving students,” said Grossman. “The work I do would not be possible without collaboration with my colleagues in Chestnut Hall as well as across campus. I am humbled and honored to work with such caring, intelligent, creative and motivated colleagues who together make such a significant impact on our students and community.”
