University of North Texas Dining gained national recognition once again, winning the grand prize in catering during the NACUFS National Conference in July.

UNT Dining was recognized in the Loyal E. Horton Catering Special Event category for its work on the Menus of Change University Research Collaborative. The menu for the Collaborative’s annual member meeting showcased sustainability, inclusivity and nutrition. Chefs used ingredients from UNT’s Mean Green Acres hydroponic farm and local vendors, while making everything from scratch.

“This national recognition speaks to the commitment of each Dining Services employee to provide engaging culinary experiences for the entire UNT community,” said executive director of Dining Services Peter Balabuch. “I am privileged to work alongside talented culinary professionals and student associates who serve our community each day.”

It’s been a successful 2023. This year alone, UNT Dining has earned:

  • 2 Loyal Horton Gold recognitions in Residential Dining and Catering
  • 1 Loyal Horton Silver recognition in Retail Restaurants
  • 4 Gold Medals at the UMASS Amherst Culinary Conference
  • 1 Loyal Horton Grand Prize in Catering
