University of North Texas students are no strangers to hard work. During a recent visit from alumna Dustee Jenkins ’01, they had the opportunity to hear how that dedication can lead to long-term success. Through classroom discussions, a keynote conversation and media interviews, Jenkins inspired the Mean Green community by emphasizing the importance of staying engaged, showing up and putting in the effort.
From New York to the Classroom
Now serving as chief public affairs officer at Spotify, Jenkins returned to her UNT roots not just for evening presentation but to truly connect with students. Before taking the stage, she spent her day in the classroom, joining JOUR 2300: Principles of News and JOUR 3420: Public Relations Writing. In both classes, she shared insights drawn from her personal and professional experiences. Her message was clear: working hard and starting from the ground up are often the first steps toward long-term success.
She challenged students to get involved, take the initiative and remain open to opportunities, no matter how big or small. It was a unique opportunity for UNT students. They got a behind-the-scenes look at the world of music streaming, from international affairs to cutting-edge technology. Jenkins also pulled back the curtain on one of Spotify’s most viral successes, the WRAPPED campaign, a fan-favorite that’s become a cultural phenomenon.
An Evening of Authenticity and Insight
The day continued with “An Evening with Dustee Tucker Jenkins,” a candid on-stage conversation led by Alfred Dozier IV, president of UNT’s Student Government Association. Jenkins again shared insights drawn from her career journey, covering everything from branding and crisis management to the value of “rolling up your sleeves” and showing up when others may not.
Her authenticity struck a chord with the audience. After the discussion, she met with students and alumni during a back-stage reception where the conversation continued.
Making Time to Give Back
Before leaving campus, Jenkins took time for interviews with The North Texan magazine, UNT podcast Happy Friday, North Texas, and student media outlet NTTV. She wrapped the day enjoying lunch with student leaders.
From the classroom to the keynote stage, alumni like Dustee Jenkins embody what makes our UNT community special – heart, hustle and determination. Her visit reminded students that success is built not just on talent and intelligence, but on showing up, working hard and staying true to your path.
