The UNT-Nightmare Co-Rec Flag Football Team represented UNT at the 2018 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships over the holiday break in Pensacola, Fla. The team had a perfect 5-0 record throughout the weekend en route to the Co-Rec National Championship. The team won the National Championship with a score of 49-19 over Tarleton State. In addition to being undefeated, the team did not allow any points in any match until the championship game.
In the pool play round of the tournament, UNT-Nightmare defeated Central Florida 50-0 and defeated the reigning National Champions Angelo State 9-0. Winning both pool play games gave them a top seed going into bracket play. Once in bracket play, UNT-Nightmare defeated Northwestern University 40-0 in the quarterfinals, then defeated the 2016 national champions Valdosta State 44-0 in the semifinals. Angelo State and Valdosta State have combined for the past six national championships.
This is the second national championship in UNT history, with the only other one coming in 2008.
