Mean Green Gowns for Grads is more than a source of assistance. It helps remove a significant financial barrier at an important milestone.

For many students, commencement is a long-awaited celebration, but the cost of graduation regalia can cast a shadow over the milestone. Since its launch in Fall of 2018, Mean Green Gowns for Grads has removed the financial stress of commencement by providing free graduation regalia rentals.

What started with an initial donation of nearly 100 gowns has grown significantly through the generous support of donors and the We Mean Green Fund, which provides critical grants to ensure the initiative continues to soar. On average, Mean Green Gowns for Grads supplies commencement regalia to 170 eligible students who successfully apply each semester.

This initiative is more than just a source of assistance—it helps remove a significant financial barrier at an important milestone. By offering free graduation regalia rentals, Mean Green Gowns for Grads ensures students can fully participate in commencement without added stress or expense. Graduates who no longer need their gowns are encouraged to donate them back to the program, helping extend its reach and support fellow students preparing to cross the stage.

The Spring 2026 application period opened February 23 and closes Sunday, March 29, while the Fall application window typically runs from September through October. To learn more and apply for regalia, visit the Mean Green Gowns site.
