The Student Health and Wellness Center (SHWC) at the University of North Texas recently received its third reaccreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). AAAHC accredits a range of ambulatory healthcare organizations, including surgery centers, medical and dental practices, and student health centers.
This voluntary process demonstrates that the SHWC has met AAAHC’s stringent requirements for delivering quality health care by meeting hundreds of nationally recognized standards focused on patient care and safety. More than 6,600 ambulatory healthcare organizations nationwide hold this unique accreditation.
SHWC first earned accreditation in 2015 and has maintained it every three years since. The process requires organizations to undergo a comprehensive self-assessment and an extensive on-site survey conducted by healthcare experts, including physicians, nurses, and administrators. This peer-based evaluation is designed to provide education and best practices for improving care and services.
SHWC is the on-campus medical clinic for UNT students. The clinic offers treatment for injuries, illnesses, and other medical issues with convenient access to on-site laboratory testing, and x-rays. Health education services are also available to keep UNT students healthy, in class, and on the path to graduation and professional success.
