Student Veteran Services at University of North Texas hosted an open house during this week’s First Flight, welcoming more than 80 student veterans and their families.
The open house was designed to help both new and returning students build connections and explore services tailored to their unique needs. Attendees met the SVS team, connected with fellow military-affiliated students, and learned about the resources available to support their academic and personal success.
“The Student Veteran Services office has been incredible in helping me transition from the service to becoming an educated member of the workforce,” says Christian, a student veteran and UNT sophomore working toward his BBA in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial studies. “With their guidance, getting my benefits was quick and easy.”
UNT’s Student Veteran Services supports veterans, active-duty service members, and their families as they transition into academic life. The office offers peer mentoring, assistance with military transcripts, and a variety of workshops and events.
“We’re here to ensure that every student veteran feels seen, supported and empowered,” says James Davenport, director of Student Veteran Services. “This event was about building relationships and making sure our military-affiliated students know they’re not alone.”
The open house is one of the many events hosted by Student Veteran Services and underscores UNT’s ongoing commitment to fostering a supportive environment for those who have served.
“The best part about the SVS office is that Jim treats me like family, and I’m proud to consider myself part of the team,” Christian explains. “It’s a place where lasting friendships can blossom.”
The Student Veteran Services office is part of UNT’s Eagle Engagement Center, a department within the Division of Student Affairs.
