For the second year, the UNT Student Activities Center partnered with Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) to package food that is then shipped to places to assist in eradicating hunger worldwide. This year’s food packaging event took place on Nov. 8 during Homecoming Week.

UNT Student Activities Rise Against Hunger“We received really positive feedback about the first event in 2016, which is why we brought it back this year,” said Cheltzie Miller-Bailey, coordinator for campus-wide events.

Thanks to the more than 350 students, staff and faculty who volunteered for the event, a shipping container holding 285,120 meals was sent to El Salvador for Rise Against Hunger’s partner Convoy of Hope. Convoy of Hope is an organization that nourishes lives through food assistance and other services in El Salvador.

Since 2005, volunteers have helped Rise Against Hunger distribute more than 310 million meals worldwide. Their goal is to end hunger by 2030, and UNT plans to continue assisting with that effort.
