The Career Center at University of North Texas helps students take the guesswork out of career planning and research with the new data-driven Digital Career Counselor.
Powered through the Steppingblocks platform, the Digital Career Counselor is an online career exploration platform that gives students access to real-world outcomes data drawn from more than 100 million professional profiles.
Turning Career Data into Actionable Insights
For UNT students, the Digital Career Counselor offers a window into career outcomes, showing where fellow Mean Green graduates work, the employers that commonly recruit from their academic programs, and the job titles and average annual salaries associated with their majors.
“These insights help spark conversations that empower students to make more informed decisions about their futures,” said Melissa McGuire, associate vice president for Student Affairs. “The Digital Career Counselor data offers a big-picture view of career outcomes, allowing students to research pathways connected to their major while also seeing where alumni with similar degrees have built their careers.”
Tools Designed for Career Exploration and Planning
By connecting academic programs to workforce outcomes, the platform helps students align their goals with industry needs and take a more strategic approach to career planning.
Students will find four primary tools designed to support their career readiness:
- Personality Assessment: Students begin by completing a brief personality assessment that aligns their interests, strengths and characteristics with potential majors, career paths and occupations.
- Search 360: Students can explore career outcomes by searching for a specific job title or major. The interactive tool provides salary information, career pathways, required education, in-demand skills, employer data and other workforce insights.
- Outcomes Explorer: This feature highlights UNT-specific outcomes and enables students to explore the employment destinations, industries and employers associated with graduates from their academic program.
The Digital Career Counselor adds an extra layer of support to the Career Center’s comprehensive career readiness resources. Students can use the platform alongside personalized services like career coaching, resume reviews, interview preparation and job search assistance.
How UNT Students Can Access
UNT students can access the Digital Career Counselor online by logging in with their student credentials. Once verified, students will choose Digital Career Counselor from the Steppingblocks Hub.
Students who are unsure where to start can connect with the UNT Career Center, part of the Division of Student Affairs, for guidance on using the platform and translating career data into an actionable plan for academic and professional success.
