Our convenient location and online programming are some of the many reasons why more than 46,000 students choose to pursue their education with UNT. Approximately 85% of our students live near campus or are commuters who travel from the surrounding DFW area. Of these, over 8,000 fall into the category of “non-traditional” and over 3,000 are 100% online students. At UNT, Off-Campus Student Services offers many options for commuter and non-traditional students, allowing you to balance your academic schedule around the distance, your job, and family responsibilities. 

What is a Commuter Student? 

Commuter Students are defined as those who do not live in institution-owned housing on the university campus requiring them to travel to and from campus on a regular basis. Whether the commuter is traveling from a few blocks or a few hours, commuter students face challenges and obstacles not yet experienced by traditional college students.

Commuter Student Appreciation Week: March 18-22, 2024

Commuter Week is held every spring semester to honor and celebrate UNT students who commute to campus from outside of Denton. This week is also designed to create more awareness for our Commuters who have specific experiences. Commuter Week is filled with fun and informative events and programs offered by Off-Campus Student Services and other UNT Departments.

What's Happening During Commuter Appreciation Week?
On Monday, March 18:

Bob Ross and Chill- hosted by Student Health and Wellness Center! Stop by the Office of Health Promotion in Chestnut Hall, Suite 301 on Monday, March 18- Friday March 22 from 10:00am - 12:00pm or 1:30pm - 3:30 pm to pick up your FREE kit! Learn about stress management while you paint your own masterpiece! 

Sleep Well, Be Well- hosted by Student Health and Wellness Center! Do you get enough sleep? Me either! Stop by the Library Mall on March 18 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm to learn about sleep health! You can create your very own sleep kit and find better ways to catch some zzz's! 

 

On Tuesday, March 19

Grab & Go- Conquer mid-day hunger by swinging by Union Circle from 11:00am - 1:00pm, or while supplies last, to grab some snacks from your friends at Off-Campus Student Services. 

Avoiding Burnout, Learning 101- The midpoint of the semester can be tough, having to juggle everything going on while prepping for your upcoming final exams. Join the Learning Center on Tuesday from 4:00pm - 4:50 pm in Sage Hall 342 to learn tips and tricks to overcome mid-semester burnout! 

Cards Against Hypnosis-  in the Union Lyceum from 7:00pm - 8:30pm and hosted by UPC. At this live hypnotist's show, anything can happen when the audience is in control! 

 

On Wednesday, March 20

Housing Fair- Avoid spending gas money to drive around Denton all day to find your next apartment! Stop by the Library Mall from 11:00am - 1:00pm to meet dozens of Denton's off-campus housing options all at once! 

World Oral Health Day- hosted by Student Health and Wellness Center! From 1:00pm - 3:00pm stop by the Union Circle to celebrate your smile! Get tips, resources and FREE toothbrush and toothpaste! 

UPCafe Live- from 12:30pm - 2:00pm, join UPC while kick back, relax, and indulge in free refreshments all while you enjoy some live music in a cozy atmosphere in the Union Syndicate! 

 

On Thursday, March 21

Cash Cab-  look for the Cash Cab near the commuter lots from 10:00am - 12:00pm to hail a ride to class! The only catch is you must answer trivia questions. The more you get right, the more prizes you win, get three wrong and be dropped off wherever you are. No matter what, its still less walking! 

Stay Sharp & Drive Well- Join Student Health and Wellness Center at the Union Circle from 2:00pm - 4:00pm for a car-azy event offering pedal-to-the-metal tips and interactive sessions to turbocharge your focus, steer your mental sharpness, and ensure a smooth ride for your physical wellbeing while driving. 

Art Bingo- hosted by UPC, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm you can unlock your inner Picasso with new art supplies at the Union Lyceum!

Non-Trad and Grad Off-Campus Social- Join your friends from Off-Campus Student Services from 5:00pm - 7:00pm for happy hour prices at Oak Street Drafthouse! We will buy your food, you buy your drinks, and we will celebrate the close to an amazing Commuter Week!
