Know the signs of different types of overdose so you can save a life!
ALCOHOL OVERDOSE
Remember the acronym MUST HELP for the signs of alcohol overdose.
M=Mental Confusion |
H= Hypothermia |
U=Unresponsive |
E=Erratic breathing |
S=Snoring/gasping for air |
L=Loss of Consciousness |
T=Throwing up |
P=Paleness/blueness of skin |
If you notice any of these signs, call first responders for help and stay with the person while you wait for emergency personnel and roll the person into the recovery position.
OPIOID OVERDOSE
Look for these signs of an opioid overdose.
If you notice any of these signs, call first responders for help and stay with the people while your wait for emergency personnel. If you have naloxone available, administer it and place the person into the recovery position. Naloxone can be found across campus in AED machines and in the RISE Center, and off campus in can be purchased over the counter at your local pharmacy.
- Unconsciousness
- Very small pupils
- Slow or shallow breathing
- Vomiting
- Faint heartbeat
- Limp arms and legs
- Pale skin
- Purple lips and fingernails
