The UNT Community Garden originated as a student-led project funded by the UNT We
Mean Green Fund.
The mission of the garden is to promote environmental education, grow food organically,
and foster a community focused on a greener, healthier future for everyone.
They have four plots that are dedicated to donation to the Food Pantry presented by
Kroger, and also host monthly workshops where campus members can pick their own produce
and learn more about gardening.
To get involved, visit their website or contact CommunityGarden@unt.edu
The City of Denton Sustainability Department and Bowling Green Community Garden also
provide volunteer opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and non-UNT affiliates
to volunteer and grow food for our pantry! Bowling Green Community Garden is located
at 2200 Bowling Green Street, Denton, TX 76207. A large community garden with over
40 plots, Bowling Green now reserves two large donation plots for a partnership between
City of Denton Sustainability, City of Denton Parks and Recreation, and UNT. Produce
grown in the plots will be donated to the UNT Food Pantry. Students of all gardening
levels are invited to help maintain the garden on an ongoing basis through simple
tasks. Instructions and tools are provided upon sign-up, and no prior gardening experience
is required. Contact: Daniel.friedman@cityofdenton.com
