The Sustainable Arts Garden (SAG), funded by the We Mean Green Fund, provides a space for students to embrace their creativity and build community through use of natural resources to make art, while learning about sustainability topics.

History of the Garden

Formerly the UNT Natural Dye Garden, this We Mean Green Fund project was founded in 2012 by UNT Fibers Program students and faculty. The garden served as a space to allow for exerimental growing and utilization of natural dye resources. The project collaborated with various local artists and organizations, such as Make Art with Purpose, Denton County Master Gardeners Association, Denton Workbench, TX Petal Project, and the We Mean Green Fund's own Environmental Volunteerism Cord program!

In Fall of 2024, the project rebranded as the Sustainable Arts Garden in order to implement a broader focus on sustainability in craft beyond natural dyeing. The heart of the project remains the same, as it still emphasizes educating the community on natural resources while embracing creativity.
