As communities nationwide mark the 25th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the University of North Texas is expanding its outreach with programs focused on education, empowerment and survivor support throughout the month of April.
First observed nationally in 2001, Sexual Assault Awareness Month brings together advocates, survivors and communities to raise awareness and work toward preventing sexual violence. UNT departments and campus programs are continuing that effort this April by offering opportunities for students, faculty and staff to learn, engage and take action.

April 29 — Denim Day
UNT community members are encouraged to wear denim as a visible sign of solidarity with survivors of sexual assault. Staff will host activities and provide information on the Union South Lawn from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The 2026 theme, “25 Years Stronger: Looking Back, Moving Forward,” celebrates the resilience of survivors and the communities that have worked for change. Ending sexual assault takes everyone working together. Every voice matter and every action counts. UNT offers several resources to help those who have been affected, those who may not know how to speak up. The month-long series of events underscores UNT’s commitment to creating a campus culture where all students feel supported and informed.
