First Year Passport

The First Year Passport is a semester-long program that provides new UNT students with incentives to complete important, high impact touch points, crucial to a first-year student’s success in the University setting.
Students who complete all pieces of the first-year passport will win prices and be entered to win a prize.
About the First Year Passport

All First Time In College Students are automatically included in the participant correspondence. They will receive an email during the first week of their first semester.

All new, undergraduate students are eligible to participate.

Most of these activities will be monitored by the Orientation and Transition Programs Office, however there are some that students will need to fill out the short First Year Passport Event Completion Form. Participation will be verified by a UNT faculty/staff member via email.

Elements of the First Year Passport
  1. Academic Advisor Appointment (verified through Navigate)
  2. Campus Events/Activities (2) (faculty/staff verification needed)
  3. Career Coach Conversation (verified through Navigate)
  4. Professor Office Hours
  5. Tutoring/Supplemental Instruction/Learning Center program/ Writing Center/Math Lab Appointment (verified through Navigate)
  6. Register for next semester classes (verified by OTP office)
How to Complete the First Year Passports
  1. Meet with your Academic Advisor
    • Advising is mandatory for all first-year undergraduate students. It is strongly recommended that all students, regardless of academic classification, see their advisors prior to the beginning of registration.
    • All first- year students will have the Advising Required hold on their account. They must meet with their academic advisor prior to registereing for the next semester. 
    • To schedule your advising appointment, go to Navigate.unt.edu
  2. Participate in a Career Coach Conversation
  3. Attend at least 2 Campus Events/Activities
    • UNT hosts hundreds of events and programs each semester.
    • Check out programs specific to our first year students on our website unt.edu
  4. Attend a Professor’s Office Hours
    • Meeting with a professor about a class that really interests you or one that you are struggling in can be a way to build academic connections and find support.
    • Contact your professor via their UNT email address and preferred way of professional contact
    • Once you meet with your professor, complete the faculty/staff verification form.
  5. Get Tutored from the UNT Learning Center
    • The UNT Learning Center provides amazing resources to assist students in achieving their academic goals. They provided tutoring, supplemental instruction, academic coaching, and more.
    • Participate in one Learning Center program, event, or tutoring experience to get credit for the First Year Passport. Utilizing the Math Lab and Writing Center can also count for this portion of the passport.
    • All Learning Center programs including tutoring and academic coaching can be found on their website: https://learningcenter.unt.edu/
    • Once you complete a Learning Center program or event, complete the faculty/staff verification form.
  6. Register for Spring 2026 semester classes
    • All first year students will meet with their academic advisor in the fall semester to plan their spring semester schedule.
    • First Year Students will have an advising required hold on their account until they meet with their academic advisor.

Deadline to Complete the First Year Passport

The deadline to complete the Fall 2025 First Year Passport with all submissions is Friday, December 5, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
