Student Spotlight: Beneyam Jemaneh

What attracted you to UNT?  

"Among the myriad of contributing elements, what attracted me most to UNT was the deep extensive network available to both the staff and student body. During my time at UNT I've had the opportunity to connect and network with IBM, Google, Fidelity, State Farm, Citibank, along with a multitude of other companies. Furthermore, this same network has aided in my development in every facet of my life while also encouraging and maintaining an ambience of growth and professionalism. I'm very proud of my decision to enroll at the University of North Texas."

How have you gotten involved in campus?

"I've tried to take a broad-ranging approach to my involvement on campus. Regarding organizations, the Association for Information Systems(AIS) and the National Society of Black Engineers have assisted in my development the most. I've also had the pleasure of working with UNT's Division of Student Affairs as their student web developer. Through this position, I've learned more than I could've ever expected, and I am glad I've maintained involvement in this way."

What advice would you give to a student who is looking to make the most of their time at UNT?

"My advice would be to learn as much as you can. Time is precious, so although it's important to relax and have fun, it's even more important to get as high of a return on your investment as you can. There are so many resources you pay for that UNT provides to ensure a successful future in your respective field, but it's incumbent on you to take advantage of them to the fullest extent in order to reap those benefits. Push yourself out of your comfort zone, diversify your intellectual palette, ask as many questions as you can, and develop a dogged work ethic. Think of this part of your education as a gateway and launching pad to every endeavor you plan on pursuing post-graduation. Through this approach, I believe you can make the most out of your time at the University of North Texas!"
