"...my role as an ACCESS Peer Mentor has been the most transformative. It has improved my leadership and empathy, teaching me how to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life. These experiences gave me the confidence to step into the professional world knowing I can lead a team and build meaningful connections."

What attracted you to UNT?

My connection to UNT started early through my aunt and cousin. Visiting them on campus, I fell in love with the atmosphere and could truly see myself building a life here. What made me sure about my choice was the university’s diversity and its perfect location. Being a family-oriented person, I wanted a place that allowed me to gain my independence and grow as an individual while still being close enough to stay connected with the people who matter most to me.

What student organizations, programs, and activities are you involved in?

Throughout my time at UNT, I’ve stayed active in the professional community. I was a member of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and Women in Business (WIB), which helped me connect with my peers and industry professionals. Currently, in my final semester, I am serving as an ACCESS Peer Mentor, where I get to support and guide other students as they navigate their own college journeys.

How has being involved helped you develop valuable skills that extend beyond the classroom?

My involvement has been a bridge between theory and practice. AMA and WIB sharpened my professional networking and collaboration skills, but my role as an ACCESS Peer Mentor has been the most transformative. It has improved my leadership and empathy, teaching me how to communicate effectively with people from all walks of life. These experiences gave me the confidence to step into the professional world knowing I can lead a team and build meaningful connections.

What advice would you give a student who is looking to make the most out of their college experience?

The best advice I ever received at UNT was: “If you never ask, the answer is always no.” As a freshman, I was very shy and intimidated by the idea of putting myself out there. When I joined the Association of Latino Professionals For America (ALPHA), a fellow member pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and speak to the guest speakers. I quickly realized that the things I thought were “scary” actually weren't bad at all.

That one small step gave me the confidence to join other organizations like WIB and AMA. Don’t let fear hold you back from making connections. Start small, ask that first question, and join an organization early on. Those connections are exactly what helped me get the most out of my UNT experience and eventually led me to become an Access Peer Mentor, helping others find their own voice.

What do you like most about UNT?

What I like most about UNT is its genuine commitment to diversity and the fact that there is truly something for everyone on campus. As an ACCESS Peer Mentor, I’ve had the privilege of working with over 50 students, each with their own unique backgrounds and interests. Whether it’s cultural organizations, professional organizations, or social events, I love that every student can find a community where they feel seen and supported.

If you could recommend students attend one campus activity or event, what would it be and why?

I would highly recommend attending the Homecoming Bonfire because after a busy semester, I get the chance to hang out with my friends and watch the fireworks.

What is a fun fact about you?

I enjoy traveling and baking! I’ve had the chance to explore Paris, Rome, and Milan, as well as Cancun and Mexico City. When I’m not traveling, I love to bake. Most recently, I've been perfecting my recipe for salt bread.

What are your plans after graduating from UNT?

My goal is to build a career in the sports and entertainment industry that allows for a healthy work-life balance. I am currently working with the Texas Rangers as a Mascot Assistant, and I hope to continue growing within that organization, using my marketing background.

What is something you have learned at UNT that you will carry with you for life?

The most important lesson I’ve learned is that your community is your greatest resource. From the peers who encouraged me to speak up to the mentees I support today, I’ve learned that we grow fastest when we help one another. This collaborative mindset is something I will carry into every team I join.
