Stress can have an impact on a college student’s success. Counseling and Testing Services (CTS) provides resources and support to help students at the University of North Texas manage and navigate stress.
From individualized therapy to group therapy workshops, the CTS Student Counseling team offers a range of services available to students at no cost. Group therapy options, such as art therapy and coping skills development, allow students to receive support from trained professionals while engaging with fellow students. Peer support is also available through Togetherall, which provides an online community for mental health. CTS can also refer students to community resources when additional services beyond what they can provide are needed.
“Stress is a common experience for college students,” said Bethany Evans, Psy.D., executive director for CTS. “Chronic stress can lead to an increased risk of mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Stress can also lead to headaches, impairment in concentration and memory, sleep problems, and high blood pressure. Stress management and other wellness programs can help decrease the physical and mental impacts of stress and increase their chance of success.”
CTS provided over 10,800 individual therapy appointments last year and consistently operates with no waitlist. Nearly 80% of students who utilized CTS services reported the counseling received improved the quality of their college experience.
