The Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) functions as the overarching entity representing the recognized culturally based fraternities and sororities at the University of North Texas (UNT). While MGC membership is open to all students, regardless of cultural background, its mission encompasses a diverse array of objectives. These include fostering principles of self-governance among member fraternities and sororities, embracing cohesion within the council, spearheading significant community service initiatives, and coordinating a spectrum of events throughout the academic year in collaboration with other Greek lettered organizations.

Joining a Multicultural Greek Council fraternity or sorority can be an enriching experience, fostering lifelong friendships, personal growth, and a sense of community. Membership selection in MGC is an individualized process that differs for each organization. Chapters choose the semester and dates when they will recruit and pledge new members. This process generally begins with an interest meeting followed by a period of membership education. The membership process culminates with initiation and may include a ‘new member’ or “coming-out” show in which the organization’s new members are revealed to the campus community.
Each semester, MGC sponsors "MGC Showcase," a program designed to help potential new members learn more about the Multicultural Greek Council and see what makes each group unique. MGC Showcase is an evening of entertainment and fun, sharing the history and culture of their organization.
Costs to Join
Fraternities/Sororities have been self-sufficient since their inception. Members of these groups pay their own way through dues, membership fees and one-time new member or initiation fees. Cost of membership in a Greek-lettered organization varies, depending on the organization and housing options. However, the cost of living in a fraternity or sorority house is generally comparable to living on campus. Students can expect a financial obligation of $150-$500 to join one of these chapters.
