The office of Orientation and Transition Programs employs more than 100 student leaders in various leadership roles.
The following positions are currently seeking applications:
- Parent Ambassadors
- Peer Mentors
- Transfer Ambassadors
How to Apply
To apply for the Parent Ambassador position, candidates need to complete the following steps:
- Log on to UNT's Handshake platform and apply for position #9649539.
- Complete the Parent Ambassador Application packet.
Applications are due Monday, March 3, 2025 by 11:59 p.m. Candidates who successfully complete an application will be invited to group interviews the week of March 17 or March 24.
To apply for the Peer Mentor position, candidates need to complete the following steps:
- Log on to UNT's Handshake platform and apply for position #9621573.
- Complete the ACCESS Peer Mentor Application packet.
Applications are due Monday, March 3, 2025 by 11:59 p.m. Candidates who successfully complete an application will be invited to group interviews the week of March 17 or March 24.
To apply for the Transfer Ambassador position, candidates need to complete the following steps:
- Log on to UNT's Handshake platform and apply for position #9619525.
- Complete the Transfer Ambassador Application packet.

All Student Leader Roles in OTP
Orientation Leaders
Orientation Leaders are students who are selected to assist with the new student and family transition to UNT. Tasks range from leading small group meetings, to providing technical assistance on the myUNT website to comforting a student who feels homesick or providing assistance during orientation programs to answering general questions about UNT for incoming freshman and transfer students. Members of the Orientation Leader Team must be flexible, perceptive, willing to take initiative, empathetic, and team-orientated. The Orientation Leader Team goes through intensive training during the spring and summer.

Parent Ambassadors
Parent Ambassadors are students who are selected to assist with new student and family transition to UNT. Tasks range from assisting during orientation programs to answering general questions about UNT for parents of incoming freshman and transfer students. While working in this role, Parent Ambassadors have the opportunity to enhance their communication skills and help contribute to the positive first impression we strive to provide prospective students and their families. Parent Ambassadors must be flexible, extremely self-motivated, and hard-working.

Peer Mentors
ACCESS Peer Mentors are essential to the retention and persistence of students at UNT. Peer mentors assist new students in getting acclimated to campus life and understanding the many resources available to them during their collegiate experience at UNT. The ACCESS Peer Mentor position is a paid position in the Orientation and Transition Programs office.
Student Assistants
Students assistants in OTP work during the regular business day from Monday - Friday. Student assistants answer phones for the department, assist visitors, and help prepare materials for new student orientation over the summer. This position seeks students with strong communication and critical thinking skills.
Transfer Ambassadors
Transfer Ambassadors are experienced student leaders whose role is to help new transfer students navigate their experience at UNT. Transfer Ambassadors provide one-on-one mentoring to new students, lead transfer communities, and help with transfer student events.
