We are proud that you have chosen to become a member of our growing UNT family! In order to assist you with your transition to UNT, all new students are required to attend orientation, a program designed to help students and families become acclimated to the university.During orientation, you will have the chance to meet with faculty and staff, meet your new classmates, connect with current students, learn about university resources, and receive academic advising in preparation for registering for classes. You will leave orientation understanding our university's spirit and traditions, as well as what to expect as you embark on your college experience.

Online orientations are only offered for students pursuing degree programs where courses are all online or are transient/visiting students. The following undergraduate degree programs are available online:

  • B.A.A.S. Degree Completion
  • Criminal Justice
  • General Business
  • Information Science
  • Integrative Studies
  • Learning Technologies
  • Nonprofit Leadership Studies
  • Rehabilitation Studies
  •

The cost to participate in an online orientation is $45.00.

Orientation Process

Student pursing an online degree will participate in an online orientation through the UNT Canvas website. You must register and pay for your orientation prior to receive access to the online orientation.

Online orientations are scheduled over the duration of a week, but you are not required to log in to live sessions each day of the week. Your online orientation will consist of the following steps:

  • Complete the course titled "Online Orientation - New Students" in Canvas. The course will become available on the first day of your scheduled orientation session.
  • Complete the online orientation course for your major in Canvas. The major courses are linked to the university course in the last module.
  • Participate in academic advising. Your major advisor will provide you instructions on how to make an academic advising appointment.

    How to Sign up for Orientation

    B.A.A.S. Degree Completion Log on to your my.unt.edu portal to sign up for an available orientation session.
    Criminal Justice If you are a fully online student, please email HPSAdvisingServices@unt.edu to request access to the online HPS orientation. Please include the following information: Name, Student ID number (Example: 12345678), Major, and Start term and year
    General Business Log on to your my.unt.edu portal to sign up for an available orientation session.
    Information Science If you are a fully online student, please email CI-Advising@unt.edu to request approval to participate in an online orientation. Please include the following information: Name, Student ID number (Example: 12345678), Major, and Start term and year
    Integrative Studies Students participating interested in pursuing the Integrative Studies degree online should email Susan McCutcheon to inquire about the program. You can also learn more on the UNT Online website.
    Learning Technologies If you are a fully online student, please email CI-Advising@unt.edu to request approval to participate in an online orientation. Please include the following information: Name, Student ID number (Example: 12345678), Major, and Start term and year
    Nonprofit & Leadership Studies If you are a fully online student, please email CI-Advising@unt.edu to request approval to participate in an online orientation. Please include the following information: Name, Student ID number (Example: 12345678), Major, and Start term and year
    Rehabilitation Studies If you are a fully online student, please email HPSAdvisingServices@unt.edu to request access to the online HPS orientation. Please include the following information: Name, Student ID number (Example: 12345678), Major, and Start term and year

    If you have paid for a standard university orientation, please contact our office at transfer@unt.edu for information about switching your orientation session. Your payment towards the university orientation may apply towards your online orientation fee.

Transient/Visting Students

A visiting or transient student is an undergraduate student who has been enrolled at another college or university who plans to attend UNT for one long term/semester and then return to the college or university where previously enrolled. Visiting Summer/Transient students are expected to complete an online orientation, to be informed about some of the basic university guidelines and academic requirements at UNT.

 

Students will be added to the online orientation starting Friday, May 3 at 8:00 a.m. This is the same day that registration opens for summer/fall for transient visiting students.
