Applying to UNT

If you’re exploring the University of North Texas and learning what it takes to become a student, you're in the right place. The PUSH Program is designed to support students with foster care experience as they prepare for college and navigate the path to UNT.

This section provides an overview of the key steps you can expect after you apply and once you’re admitted to UNT.

Once Admitted

Make sure you sign up for Orientation HERE.

Take TSI Assessment (if student did well on their ACT or SAT, they may not need to take the assessment)- $29 assessment fee

Make sure your final transcript has been sent over to UNT after you graduate from high school, if you took any dual credit courses in high school, or if you are transferring to UNT.

Make sure you meet UNT’s Health and Immunization requirements and submit your meningitis vaccination by logging in here, click on "Meningitis Documents Needed" in your To Do List to upload your files (only one upload is allowed. After upload, your submission will be processed in the order it was received.)

Waiver Process

If you are eligible, prior to starting at UNT, please have state PAL staff or Adoption Eligibility Assistance staff give you a signed college Tuition Fee Waiver Letter.

Email the signed Tuition & Fee Waiver Letter to SA-Sponsored-Programs@ad.unt.edu with your full legal name and UNT student ID number.

Financial Aid Process

Submit your FAFSA with all of the required documentation. You will need: Social Security Number, Federal tax information including W-2 documents or tax returns, information on cash, checking and savings account balances, investments, etc. as each applies to you. Be sure to mark UNT-Denton as one of the schools to send your FAFSA information.

Your Financial Aid Award Letter will be emailed to your UNT student email account. This will tell you what financial aid you will qualify for.

Read the Terms and Conditions and log in to MyUNT.edu, review your awards and review your bill.

Determine which awards you will accept or decline. HINT: You do not have to pay back grants. You WILL have to pay back loans. Make sure you are using all available aid that you will not have to pay back first. Ask for help, if needed. (Pell Grant, ETV, other scholarships).

If you need to take out a loan, you do not need to take the full amount; you can reduce the amount of the loan on your financial aid tab in my.unt.edu

Housing Process

Learn about UNT's Housing and Residence Life community and opportunities. Apply for Housing and be sure to review and agree to the Housing License Agreement.

Apply to Housing
